Recognizing the increasing importance that corporate security plays in today’s
environment, Metrus Group, with the support of ASIS International, launched a Security Strategy Benchmark
Study. This research examined how the security functions of some of the country’s leading organizations are
meeting the multiple challenges of :
- an increasingly risky operating environment,
- continuous budgetary constraints,
- a growing demand to demonstrate the value they add to the business.
Twenty leading companies sponsored, and participated in the study, which
gathered input from security leaders, senior executives (funders), security coordinators, and
employees — customers of security services.
Some of the best practices identified through this study include:
- Developing strong measures of ROI and Level of Risk to set priorities and gain
budget approval.
- Selling the value of security services through networking and demonstrated problem solving
abilities -- not through credentials or scare tactics.
- Staying in close contact with customers (both Senior Executives and nonmanagement
employees) through ongoing interviews and surveys.
- Developing a longer-term vision and strategy for the security function.
More best practices, and an executive summary of the study findings.
