Metrus defines career mapping as the process of enabling individuals to plan their career direction in such a way that they understand the opportunities that lie ahead and the skills that will be required to take advantage of those opportunities. It also encompasses enabling organizations to understand the skill needs that they will have going forward, and the resources pool on which they can draw to meet that need. Our services in this area focus on integration and alignment of organization and employee needs.
A robust career mapping platform must begin with the development and shared understanding of an organizations goals around employee career development. This will promote a tangible and realistic development culture, with clear objectives and reciprocal employee/organizational expectations. This will also ensure that career development planning holds a long-range focus and is based on the balance between employees’ interests and motivations as well as the strategic direction and needs of the organization. Our approach is to implement career maps throughout the organization by linking it to functional and ultimately individual career development goals.
